Pro Circuit/Split Fire Kawasaki’s Nathan Ramsey Took the Win in this Heat Race 26 Years Ago
In this week’s Throwback Thursday, we dial back the clock 26 years to 1998 and that season’s Seattle Supercross. This photo shows the start of the first race of the evening program inside the Kingdome, the first 125cc West heat race. In this photo you see Larry Linkogle (No. 246), Erick Vallejo (No. 277) and Nathan Ramsey (No. 35), all with great starts. Ramsey would come out of this turn in the lead on his Pro Circuit/Split Fire Kawasaki KX125 and he would hold that lead to the checkered flag to become the first race winner of the night. Also visible in the photo are Chris Wheeler (No. 59), Jeffrey Willoh (No. 39), Tyler Evans (No. 417), Danny Smith (No. 125), Stephane Roncada (No. 18) and Washington State’s own Brad Hagseth (No. 95). David Vuillemin (that’s him mid-pack in the blue Yamaha jersey straight back from Ramsey) would recover from this bad start and finish second to Ramsey in the heat, then go on to win the 125cc West main event that night. Supercross will make its stop in Seattle this Saturday (March 23rd) at Lumen Field.
