After a fourth-place finish the weekend before at the Ultimate Hawaiian Hard Enduro in Kauai, Webb was motivated not to let that happen again and not leave Hawaii without a win.
The KRD Team, which swept the podium last week, wanted to continue their momentum in Oahu. Webb had reinforcement this time, with Webb’s FactoryOne Sherco teammate Cooper Abbott flying over to compete for his first time in Hawaii. The second round of the AMA West Hard Enduro Series, presented by Klim, attracted more than 200 racers who competed in the 12 USHE classes over a three-loop course.
Abbott grabbed the holeshot from the first row, which started on the concrete pads of the starting gates of the Kahuku Motocross Track. The battles started taking place in the tight trails, and the front pack stayed relatively close until Webb started to pull away. He came into the gas check in one hour and 20 minutes, which was about five minutes ahead of KRD’s Kamakana Waiwaiole-Kahalepuna and Ryder Guest.
The second loop was tougher and Webb extended his lead over the KRD squad that came into the gas check within 90 seconds of each other and 14 minutes behind Webb.
Loop three was the most technical. Still, Webb finished in first place, completing the torture in four hours and 20 minutes. He was exhausted and glad to see the checkered flag.
Kamakana had a bike failure in the final loop, allowing Kawelo Huddy to pull into the third-place spot, battling second-placed Guest to the very end. Guest and Huddy finished 12 seconds apart, 53 minutes behind Webb. Kamakana and Abbott did not make it to the finish line but were credited with fourth and fifth, respectively.
