Freddie Spencer, Mike Baldwin and Roberto Pietri Gave Honda a Clean Sweep of the Daytona Superbike Podium in “82
In this week’s Throwback Thursday, we travel back over 40 years to March of 1982 and the Bell Superbike 100 at Daytona International Speedway. This Gary Van Voorhis photo shows Roberto Pietri (No. 88) leading fellow Honda riders Mike Baldwin (No. 43), Steve Wise (No. 38) and Freddie Spencer (No. 19). Only Yoshimura Suzuki’s Wes Cooley (No. 34) is breaking up the nearly all Honda lead group. Spencer moved up to take the victory over Baldwin and Pietri to give Honda a podium sweep that day. Cooley finished fourth, Wise was eighth. It marked Honda’s first clean sweep of the podium in AMA Superbike history.
