It’s that time of year when the world’s best action sports athletes compete at the X Games. Moto X is still a staple of the week’s events with disciplines like Freestyle, Best Whip, Best Trick, and Quarterpipe High Air dominating the skies. This year all Moto X events were held at Axell Hodges’ compound, The Slayground, in Ramona, CA. Scroll below to see highlights and results from each event.
Freestyle
Australia’s Rob Adelberg stomped the competition in his first run with back to back frontflips which ultimately earned him the gold medal. He completed the successive front flips 20 years after Mike Metzger landed his infamous back-to-back backflips at the 2002 Philadelphia X Games. Germany’s Luc Ackermann grabbed the silver medal just ahead of Australian Josh Sheehan.
Freestyle Results
1. Rob Adelberg (AUS), 93.33
2. Luc Ackermann (GER), 91.00
3. Josh Sheehan (AUS), 88.33
Best Whip
Best Whip is always a fan favorite for it’s display of style. The best whippers in the game brought out their biggest sends and got sideways for the top spot on the box. Belgium’s Julien Vanstippen won his first X Games gold medal ahead of Axell Hodges and last year’s winner Tom Parsons. Be sure to watch the highlights, you don’t want to miss this one.

Best Trick
Best trick brings out the biggest one-off combinations these riders have to offer. The sport is elevated so high though, that many of the best tricks are just cleaned up versions of jumps we saw during the freestyle runs. Crazy that front flips and double backflips are the norm these days. Adelberg took his second gold of the day with a 120 foot no footed front flip. Sheehan and Ackermann both went for double backflip combos to earn silver and bronze respectively.

2. Josh Sheehan (AUS), 89.00

Quarterpipe High Air
Quarterpipe is the event that’s effectively replaced Step Up. This is another discipline which has grown to new heights in recent years, no pun intended. Riders upped the standing world record in their first runs and it became an all-out brawl for the top spot. Colby Raha ended up taking gold in his final jump over Axell Hodges and Spanish rookie Guillem Navas.

2. Axell Hodges (USA), 48’

Moto X 110’s
Moto X 110 is one of the newest events on the schedule with a much lighter atmosphere for the athletes. Despite riding smaller pit bikes, riders still bust out big tricks and flips on the designated course. Axell Hodges walked away with gold, Banks Hovey with silver, and Tim Ritson with bronze.
