Throwback Thursday: Laguna Seca AMA Endurance Challenge Podium
In this week’s Throwback we travel back to April of 1993 and the AMA/CCS EBC Brake Endurance Challenge at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California. It was a challenging 90-minute race on a wet-to-drying track. Coming through in the tricky conditions were Dutchman Racing’s Phil Kress and Andrew Stroud on the team’s Yamaha FZR1000 to take the victory. Stroud was a replacement rider for Ray Yoder who’d broken his wrists in Daytona. It turned out Stroud’s ample rain racing experience came into play. In third when he took over the second stint, Stroud raced to the front and pulled way to an 8-second victory over Two Brothers Racing’s Nick Ienatsch and Tommy Lynch. Finishing third was Fastline/MCM Suzuki’s Scott Zampach and Michael Barnes. From left to right on the podium is Zampach, Barnes, Stroud, Miss Laguna Seca 1993, Kress, Ienatsch and Lynch. Two Brother went on to win the series championship that season.
