Throwback Thursday: Alex Barros Gets His First
In this week’s Throwback we dial it back almost 26 years to Sept. 26, 1993, and the season ending FIM Motorcycle Grand Prix at Jarama in Spain. On that day Brazilian Alex Barros broke through to score his very first Grand Prix victory. The look of joy is obvious on his face as he stands atop the podium. Alongside Barros are Daryl Beattie (left) who finished second on the Rothmans Honda and Barros’ Lucky Strike Suzuki teammate Kevin Schwantz, who finished third that day. Schwantz had already clinched the world title earlier that season. Barros would go on to score six more premier class GP victories during his career, but amazingly, after Jarama in ’93, it would be almost seven years before he would earn his next GP win.
