Maxwell, who will join 2017 ASBK Champion Josh Waters in the factory team for the next two seasons, has spent the last four seasons competing for the factory Yamaha Racing Team in the ASBK series, finishing the 2018 season in second place to Honda’s Troy Herfoss.
“Heading into 2019 and Team Suzuki ECSTAR Australia almost feels like coming home,” Maxwell said of the team with which he won the Australian Superbike Championship in 2013. “Warren (Monson) has been my race mechanic for many years, so to be reunited with him, under the watch of PTR and the entire crew at Team Suzuki ECSTAR Australia is a great feeling. There’s always work to do, but I’m more motivated than ever to be on the top step of the podium in 2019 and beyond.”
Phillis, son of Australian racing legend Robbie and a rider who made one MotoAmerica appearance for the Aussie Dave Racing Team in MotoAmerica this season, will get the first chance in his career to race a factory-supported team in 2019.
“Racing a superbike at this level is challenging on so many levels, so to have the support of Team Suzuki ECSTAR Australia, Phil Tainton Racing and all the team partners is a great confidence booster,” Phillis said. Josh and Wayne are both class racers, and I have the opportunity to benefit from their experience and reach my own goals in the 2019 season.”
