The 2017 KTM Adventure Rider Rally was held in Crested Butte, Colorado for the second time in three years. With nearly 500 attendees including a massive staff of KTM event planners, celebrity riders, world-class racers and helpful technicians, it was a popular destination, to say the least. On top of that, nearly 30 vendors from the Adventure Motorcycling industry showcased their latest adventure motorcycle gear and services.

We had a quick chat with the Kurt Caselli Foundation’s one-and-only Nancy Caselli inside their booth at the KTM Adventure Rider Rally to see why they made the trip, what kind of cool new stuff they have and what they think the KTM Adventure Rider Rally is all about.

What about the Kurt Caselli Foundation presence here is drawing the most interest from the attendees at the KTM Rally?

Nancy Caselli: KTM invited us to be at the Rider Rally, and Kurt was at the Rider Rally in 2013, and people sure remember that. A lot of folks are coming up and talking about their hour of having a meal with Kurt at that event and things like that. It’s really just a lot of good memories.

From there, we’re able to talk about the foundation and the programs we have going on to try to make riding safer. Everything from promoters being aware and mindful of things, which may make their events safer to riders being mindful and taking steps to be safer. Things like having a helmet identification sticker, using a RoadID band and using SPOT Trackers can make a big difference.

Another thing we’re able to do through the foundation is to award a couple scholarships every year to young adults who are finding out that racing isn’t going to pay the bills and they’d like to invest in further education for their plan B.

We’re also selling hats and shirts and other products here in the booth to support those efforts and the response has been nice.

Why should riders consider attending the KTM Adventure Rider Rally?

Nancy Caselli: This is my first time at one of these events and I think people should come here because it’s like coming to a family reunion. You’re with people who are sharing the same passion, riding styles, stories, and camaraderie. KTM is a great bike brand that makes great motorcycles and with the organized rides, you’re able to go see places you may have never seen or would have missed. It’s just a really great time.CN
