2017 High Point 250 MX Results: The Lucas Oil/AMA National Motocross Championship sometimes starts to take a different shape once the series hits the east coast. The hot weather is joined by humidity, and the tracks typically develop differently as well. The High Point MX National specifically has been a staple on the tour for decades, but the 2017 running of the event saw a new track layout, and the area was recovering from recent rainfall. It complicated things, but the top of the field is beginning to stand apart from the rest.
In high-humidity and temperatures upward of 90 degrees, GEICO Honda’s Jeremy Martin took his first overall win of the season.

Jeremy Martin grabbed the holeshot in the first 250cc moto over former teammate Aaron Plessinger from the Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha squad, and then came Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Zach Osborne and Jeremy Martin’s current teammate RJ Hampshire. But the bigger news was Jeremy Martin’s brother Alex, from the TLD/Red Bull KTM team, found himself laying on the ground in turn one, along with Plessinger’s teammate Colt Nichols, Osborne’s rookie teammate Michael Mosiman, and Jeremy Martin’s rookie teammate, in his pro debut, Chase Sexton.
Jeremy Martin led the first half of the race, but Osborne caught fire a few laps in and chased Jeremy Martin down to take the lead around halfway, later stating that he had some arm-pump in the early laps that he was able to work his way through as the moto progressed.

Osborne took the moto win in front of Jeremy Martin and Plessinger, followed at a distance in fourth by Plessinger’s teammate Dylan Ferrandis, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo, his teammate Austin Forkner, and then Alex Martin, who fought his way all the way up to seventh after his first-turn fall. Behind him came another PC Kawasaki of Joey Savatgy, Hampshire, and Plessinger’s teammate Mitchell Harrison.

Moto two saw Alex Martin go from crashing in turn one in the first moto to grabbing the holeshot the second time out, with Plessinger, Jeremy Martin, Forkner, Ferrandis, Hampshire, Savatgy, Nichols, Osborne, and Harrison rounding out the top 10. Jeremy Martin and Forkner worked their way past Plessinger, who went on an early slide backward, eventually falling to sixth place before he recovered and began moving back forward again.
Jeremy Martin found his way by his brother Alex for the lead at the halfway point, and that’s all there was out front. Jeremy Martin took the moto win and overall eight seconds in front of Osborne, who fought his way up to second with a handful of laps left in the moto. Plessinger found his way back up to third, just in front of teammate Ferrandis, then came Alex Martin, Forkner, Savatgy, Hampshire, Harrison, and then Sexton taking his first top-10.
Jeremy Martin’s 2-1 gave him the overall in front of Osborne’s 2-1, and then Plessinger’s 3-3 gave him his best pair of motos so far this season in third. Although Jeremy Martin got the overall, he and Osborne tied on points, which means that Osborne continues to lead the points by 18 over Jeremy Martin, with Alex Martin 8 points further back in third, with eight rounds – 16 motos – still left to run.
The series resumes next weekend at Muddy Creek Raceway in Blountville, Tennessee.
