Over 5500 miles of daunting terrain through Paraguay, Bolivia and Argentina, in what is being called the toughest route since the event has moved to South America, pushed racers to the limit at the 2017 Dakar Rally, where intense conditions, injury, heartbreak, penalties and finally an upset victory spun another incredible tale of the toughest off-road race in the world.
On top of the demands of the terrain, temperature extremes ranged from 115°F to below freezing, weather extremes resulted in one rider being struck by lightning, and peak altitudes reached over 16,500 feet (including an entire week over 10,000 feet). But throughout the two-week test of man and machine comes the striking beauty of the Dakar Rally, and stunning imagery we just can’t get enough of.
Enjoy some scenes from the 2017 Dakar Rally, amazing landscapes and dramatic moments that defined the 39th edition of the race. CN
