Blayne Thompson Wins South Point WORCS
| February 29, 2016
Blayne Thompson recorded his first ever WORCS victory at the very first WORCS race held in and around the South Point Casino grounds in Las Vegas, Nevada, February 27-28.
The South Point Casino event was unique for the normally off-road focused WORCS Championship with a course racing through three indoor arenas along with an outdoor section on the casino grounds. The course combined three different types of dirt and sand, as well as concrete and asphalt sections. The main arena featured big jumps, a log section, and other obstacles. The event drew a large crowd, not to mention a record turnout of racers.
Thompson had his hands full with Justin Seeds early in the race before taking command and running off with the victory.
Seeds held on to finish second, while points leader and defending champ Robby Bell finished third.
“I did it,” said Thompson. “I found good lines to get around the lappers, played it smart and came out with the win. In the sand section there was a triple. Right when I came over it, I landed right on top of another rider and went right over the bars. The bike stayed running when it fell, so jumped on and got going.”
In Pro 2 Class, Logan Chambers secured his second win of the season ahead of Kyle Mercier, and WORCS newcomer, Noah Kepple.
In the Pro 2 Lights, Dante Oliveira secured his third straight win followed by Jarett Megla, and Austin Warren.
