Buchanan, Michigan (July 4, 2015) – Justin Barcia carried the momentum he gain from his win in the mud last week at Budds Creek into Buchanan, Michigan, for the RedBud round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Series where he claimed his second-straight overall win via 2-1 moto finishes.
Last week, Barcia used his mud-riding skills to take advantage of the inclement conditions to get his win. At RedBud, however, the AutoTrader.com/Toyota/JGR Yamaha rider just flat outran the competition, beating series point leader Ryan Dungey straight up in a head-to-head duel in a second moto to take the overall win.
Barcia grabbed the holeshot in both motos, and in moto one, the New Yorker led Dungey until the halfway mark before Dungey passed for the lead and eventually the win. Barcia held onto second, while RCH/Soaring Eagle/Jimmy Johns Suzuki’s Ken Roczen finishes third.
In the second moto, Barcia grabbed the holeshot again and held off a persistent Dungey until the end, taking the win by 1.6 seconds over the Red Bull KTM rider. Roczen again finished third, with Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Christophe Pourcel in fourth.
Barcia’s 2-1 score tied with Dungey’s 1-2, with Barcia getting the overall win thanks to a better second moto score. Dungey finished second overall, with Roczen finishing out the overall podium with a steady 3-3 moto tally.
RCH/Soaring Eagle/Jimmy Johns Suzuki’s Broc Tickle finished fourth overall after going 4-7 in the two motos, while AutoTrader.com/Toyota/JGR Yamaha’s Weston Peick rounded out the top five with a 5-6.
With seven rounds now in the book, Dungey extended his lead in the championship standings to 44 points over Roczen (303 to 259), while Barcia moved into third overall with 340 points.
The series takes another weekend off next week before heading to Millville, Minnesota, for the Spring Creek round of the series.
