BIRMINGHAM, AL (June 13, 2015) – Josh Herrin scored his first MotoAmerica Supersport pole of the season at Barber Motorsports Park. Herrin, who is tied atop the series standings with JD Beach, pushed his No. 2 Wheels in Motion/Motosport.com/Meen Yamaha R6 to a time of 1:26.641 to edge out Latus Motors Triumph rider Bobby Fong. Yamalube/YES/Graves rider Garrett Gerloff rounds out the front-row starters.
“This is my first one,” Herrin said of his pole. “It’s a good feeling for sure to get it here at Barber. Qualifying usually doesn’t mean that much to me. With how the schedules are sometimes I think it’s a waste of time to push that hard just before the race, but it makes me real confident going into the race for sure.”
Herrin’s teammate Joe Roberts scored the pole in the Bazzaz Superstock 600 class with a time of 1:28.716. Bryce Prince and Richie Escalante share the front row with Roberts.
In KTM RC Cup qualifying, it was Gage McAllister on his NCR-backed machine topping the charts with a 1:43.707. Brandon Altmeyer and Anthony Mazziotto III will start alongside McAllister. McAllister has a grueling weekend in front of him, racing the Superstock 600 class as well, a tough task in the Alabama heat.
“I’m racing both classes and at first hoping on the KTM was a bit difficult because of the difference of speed,” McAllister said. “But once I got used to being back on the KTM I was able to work with the guys I was running with on the track. The key is just to get that little bit of draft to help you in certain areas and I was able to get a really good run on the last lap.”
