After a rough 2014 in World Superbike, Geoff May has had a much better start to 2015 and will start on pole for tomorrow’s Daytona 200. May, on a privateer Yamaha (his self-ran effort named Project Mayday due to its crowd sourced origins) edged out former Daytona 200 winner Josh Herrin on the Meen Motorsports Yamaha near the end of the session by just .005 of a second.
“I knew it was a good lap,” May said. “When I saw my number go to the top of the boards, I was happy. I knew I had [the pole]; with the amount of time left [in the session] nobody was going to best that. I’m over the moon.”
In third, and also on a Yamaha, was young Columbian rider Stefano Mesa. Behind Mesa was the reigning Daytona 200 champion—Danny Eslick on the TOBC Racing Suzuki. And rounding out the top five was Barrett Long on a Ducati.
Tomorrows 74th running of the event kicks off at 1 p.m. (ET) and will be aired live on Fanschoice.tv
