A source at Dunlop has revealed that their elite EnduroCross “gummy” tire will now be available for purchase. Dubbed the Dunlop D756 EX, the purpose-built EnduroCross tire is composed of an ultra-soft compound in the company’s traditional D756 mold. Until now, the tire has been exclusively available to pro racers only. But amid popular demand, Dunlop is currently producing a run of the D756 EX tires and has plans to make them available to the public.

The factory Dunlop “gummy” tire first came on the scene at the 2012 Summer X Games. The new tire swept the Enduro X Racing podium that night as Dunlop riders Mike Brown, Cody Webb and Cory Graffunder took home medals. It offered such a performance advantage that it prompted reigning champion Taddy Blazusiak to immediately dump his Metzeler sponsorship and get on board with Dunlop. The top riders in the EnduroCross championship have been running them ever since, but the works Dunlop tires remained elusive – available only direct from the factory to sponsored riders.

Dunlop’s plans to release the tire for purchase will start this weekend at Daytona Bike Week. The D756 EX will be available for purchase from Dunlop at the opening round of the 2015 AMA EnduroCross Series tomorrow (March 6) at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.

Limited quantities of the tire – in a 110/100-18 size only – will be available for purchase at $170 each to EnduroCross competitors only. They are limited to one tire per registered participant, per round.

Remaining tires will also be available for purchase from Dunlop in Salt Lake City, Utah for round two of the AMA EnduroCross Series on March 21. A source at Dunlop says they plan to have a much larger quantity available by May, and following the third round of the AMA EnduroCross Series in Las Vegas on May 1, they expect to have a large enough stock to start making the tires available to the general public.

Due to the delicate nature of the tire and its special ultra-sticky compound, the D756 EX cannot be stocked on a shelf like regular tires. Therefore the specialty tire will not be distributed to dealers. Instead, it will be available for purchase direct from Dunlop at the same website the company sells its mousse tubes: www.dunlopmousse.com. Look for it in May of 2015.
