First Look: 2015 Yamaha FZ-07!

With the popularity of the 2014 FZ-09, there’s not a lot of surprise in the fact that Yamaha is trying to piggyback that popularity with the new, entry level FZ-07 and today the tuning fork company is showing off its new bike for the first time.
The FZ-07 is powered by an all-new liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 689cc parallel twin that produces a claimed 74 horsepower. The powerplant has been designed with low-end grunt in mind and produces a claimed 50 foot-pounds of torque.
The FZ-07’s twin sits in an all-new diamond-type, steel frame with the engine serving as a stressed member, allowing the package to be lighter and more compact.
The FZ-07 should make newbies feel comfortable with a seat height of just 31.7 inches and it tips the scale at 397 pounds – 17 pounds lighter than the FZ-09.
The new Yamaha also gets a new LCD instrument panel that includes a digital bar-type tach display, gear position indicator, digital speedometer, etc. The FZ-07 will use a 3.7-gallon fuel tank and gets a claimed 58 mpg.
Other features include 10-spoke aluminum wheels and wave-type brake rotors (282mm wave-style up front, 245mm at the rear). The front fork is 41mm with 5.1 inches of travel; the rear is an adjustable, link-type shock that also provides 5.1 inches of travel.
The new bike will retail for $6990 and will be available in July in three-color variations: Liquid Graphite, Rapid Red And Pearl White.
