First Look: Honda’s Production MotoGP Racer

Cycle News Staff | May 27, 2013

Honda released an action photo of the production racer it plans on releasing for the 2014 MotoGP World Championship today, with the bike looking a lot like Honda’s current RC213V factory bike.

No details were released from the test, though Honda Shuhei Nakamoto said the bike “showed more than what we had expected…”

The new model will be Honda’s entry into the CRT category, allowing “entrants to race in MotoGP at a lower cost starting from next season.”

Development of the model is currently slightly behind schedule, but HRC tested the bike at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit with an unnamed test rider – May 23-24.

Honda plans to finalize development and introduce the new model by the end of this year.

“The test showed more than what we had expected, in particular, with its running performance,” said Nakamoto. “We are very pleased at this stage and we will announce more in the not too distant future.”

The price of the bike is expected to be around $1 million Euro.
