Edwards To Forward Racing

Colin Edwards is the first big-name rider to throw his hat into the CRT ring for next year’s MotoGP World Championship, the Texan announcing today at the San Marino Circuit in Rimini, Italy, that he will join the Forward Racing team on what will likely be a Yamaha R1-based racer for 2012.

The 37-year-old Edwards has been with the Monster Tech 3 Yamaha team since 2008, but he is set to be replaced for 2012 – with riders like Andrea Dovizisio, Bradley Smith and Alvaro Bautista all prime candidates to make the move to the Yamaha satellite team as the team looks for a younger rider.Edwards is hoping for not only Yamaha R1 engines, but a Tech 3 chassis in the Forward Racing bike. The team, which is based in Italy, hasn’t announced what engines and chassis it will be using yet.
