Last week, Youthstream released the 2012 provisional FIM Motocross World Championship calendar and left off the schedule was the USGP, which has been held at Glen Helen Raceway in California the last two years. Youthstream, the organizers of the World MX Championship, did not offer an explanation or acknowledge the omission – until now, when Youthstream released the following press release.
Following the publication of the 2012 Provisional FIM Motocross World Championship Calendar, where the U.S. GP is not present, Youthstream and Glen Helen would like to confirm that their relationship is extremely good and the will to co-operate remains strong. The decision to not put the U.S. GP on the 2012 calendar is based on the fact that there is a lack of interest from the American industries and due to the low presence of top American riders. This is an almighty shame as the organization and the quality of the racing at the U.S. GP in Glen Helen was really impressive.
Youthstream and Glen Helen will however continue working on having a U.S. GP in the future with the presence of the top American riders.
“It has certainly been great working with Bud Feldkamp, Lori Byrant and all the Glen Helen staff, they welcomed the World Championship, and they are very friendly and professional,” the President of Youthstream, Giuseppe Luongo, said. “Glen Helen is one of the best motocross tracks in the world and I really hope to be able to return one day. During this time together I have found a true and trustful friend in Bud.”
Bud Felkamp, the owner of Glen Helen, said, “Working with Youthstream and the FIM has been a great experience, a real pleasure. The World Championship teams are very well organized and the riders are really fast – the races were just spectacular. We have heard some absurd things about Giuseppe Luongo and I would just like to say that Mr. Luongo is a person who cares a lot about the organizers and the whole series in general, he is someone who understands the various problems and tries his best to find good compromises to allow the race to happen.”
Mr. Feldkamp continued, “We are hoping to find support from the American Motocross industries so that we can continue organizing the U.S. GP with the top US and European riders, and have the race of the century, it would be such a big loss for the American fans if we lose this race. Glen Helen is the best track in the world and we would love seeing Villopoto, Stewart, Dungey, Reed and all our other great riders battle it out against the likes of Cairoli, Desalle, Roczen – so we count on the support of the American riders, fans and industry.”
