MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi will undergo surgery today to repair a compound fracture of his right tibia after crashing out of this morning’s practice session for the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello.Rossi crashed his Fiat Yamaha M1 in the fast chicane at the top fo the hill (turn 13) at Mugello and was taken to the circuit medical center for X-rays. From there, Rossi was airlifted to the Careggi Hospital in Florence where doctors found that the seven-time MotoGP World Champion had “suffered a displaced and exposed fracture to the third medium of the right shinbone,” according to a statement issued today by Yamaha.Rossi has not missed a race since making his 125cc GP debut in 1996.
