Belgian Freddie Crosset (right) wrapped up the 2001 AMA/NATC National Trials Championship after winning the final two rounds of the series in Weeping Water, Nebraska, September 1-2. The factory Gas Gas rider got off to a strong start in the series and pretty much maintained control through the last round.

Finishing second both days in Nebraska and finishing second in the series was defending champ Geoff Aaron, also Gas Gas-mounted. Aaron, a six-time AMA/NATC champion, was just nine points behind Crosset going into the final two rounds in Nebraska, but he saw Crosset clinch the championship after Saturday’s competition.

Canadian Ryon Bell finished out the year in third place, after going 3-4 on his Montesa in Nebraska.

Crosset announced in Nebraska that he will return to the Unites States next year to defend his number-one plate.
