Honda 1-2 at Terrible’s Town 250

| April 8, 2001

At yesterday’s Terrible’s Town 250, the second round of the Best in the Desert Silver State Series in Pahrump, Nevada, Honda Racing’s desert warriors Johnny Campbell and Tim Stabb took the overall win on their XR650R. Less than five minutes behind, the second-place team of Honda XR650R riders Steve Hengeveld and Jonah Street crossed the line. Campbell and Stabb finished the race in just under five hours and averaged nearly 50 miles per hour, according to a Honda press release.

It was a remarkable ride for both teams as the weather, which had threatened all week, unleashed its fury on the racers shortly after the green flag fell. Rain turned to sleet, sleet turned to hail, and hail turned to snow – and back again – but it wasn’t enough to chill the spirits of the teams that battled both the elements and each other for the honor – and the payoff – of the “Richest Off-Road Race in Nevada.”

Unofficial Results: 1. Johnny Campbell/Tim Stabb (Hon); 2. Steve Hengeveld/Jonah Street (Hon); 3. Destry Abbott/Brian Brown (Kaw); 4. Danny Cooper (Yam); 5. Daryl Folks (KTM).

Upcoming Rounds: June 1-3, SCORE Baja 500, Ensenada, Baja California; June 22-24, Best in the Desert, Tonopah 300, Tonopah, NV.
