Keith Johnson and Tom Welch Get Great Starts at The Ranch
With the 45th running of the Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship happening this week at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, we thought it would be good to feature a past race from the event in this week’s Throwback. Pictured here is the start of one of the Vet 35 Plus motos at Loretta’s in 2011. The Vet 35 Plus class is always a fun one to watch, featuring a mix of recently retired pros and the best amateurs coming together to mix it up. In this shot Keith Johnson (16) gets a great start on his Team Green Kawasaki. Tom Welch (89) also runs up front into the first turn. Other riders include James Povolny (38), RC Bennett (32), Rodney Carrier (45), Scott Phelps (9), Mike Duclos (33), Allen Alford II (21) and Scott Sheak (27). It was Clark Stiles who ultimately won the overall that day over Johnson and Povolny.
