Some Big-Name Riders Were Part of Yamaha’s Amateur Racing Support at the NMA

In this week’s Throwback we wind back the clock 45 years to 1981 and the 6th Annual NMA Grand National Championship MX Series in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Ponca City was the biggest amateur motocross meeting during those days and attracted many of the top racers from across the country. Yamaha Competition Support backed several riders in the event and photographer/reporter Tom Mueller captured a shot of the six “in house” riders. Left to right are Ron Lechien, Johner Kight, Eddie Hicks, Troy Blake, Ronnie Tichenor and Mouse McCoy, accompanied by their mechanics. As we know all these years later, a couple of these riders went on to successful pro careers.
