Winner Kenny Roberts, Runner Up Gary Nixon and Third Place Skip Aksland Celebrate

In this week’s Throwback Thursday, we dial back the clock to 1977 and that year’s Loudon Classic. It was the legendary Kenny Roberts (holding the checkered flag) who scored victory that day over Gary Nixon (right) and Kenny’s own protégé Skip Aksland (Goodyear hat) who scored third. The three podium finishers take a victory lap in the back of a convertible along with Miss Camel Lynn Griffis. Roberts was dominant on the pavement that year, winning five of the six road race Grand Nationals aboard a factory Yamaha.
