FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Trystan Hart capped off the AMA West Hard Enduro Championship, Presented by Klim, with another victory at the Donner Hard Enduro on Saturday, June 21. The Donner race was round nine of the 2025 Bullet Proof Designs U.S. Hard Enduro Series, Presented by IRC Tire, and part of Brian Garrahan’s Donner Challenge weekend at the Donner Ski Ranch in Norden, California. With the win, Hart secured the West and the overall AMA U.S. Hard Enduro Championship titles.

Situated just 15 minutes from Truckee and perched at 7000 feet in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the weather at this venue has always been an unpredictable factor, and this year was the wildest one yet. A couple of hours before the race was scheduled to start, a Summer Solstice storm began to blanket the mountain with snow and hail, and it was then that lightning struck within a mile, leading to a race start delay of two hours. Once the storm cleared and the lightning dissipated, the conditions transformed from late-spring dusty trails and dry granite slabs to perfect loamy dirt and slick granite surfaces. Even though the race start was delayed by two hours, this unexpected storm created some of the best racing conditions the Donner Hard Enduro has ever seen.
The race started with rows of 20 racers, and it was Sherco USA’s Will Riordan who got the holeshot, leading the first part of the first lap. Being in the lead under these conditions was not ideal, as he was navigating a course with snow on the trail and in the trees, making it tough to maintain that position up front. While ascending a small granite face, Riordan couldn’t make it and fell back, narrowly avoiding a charging Hart behind him. Riordan’s misstep and an additional rear brake issue allowed Hart to take the lead, enabling him to stay up front for the entire first lap. Hart felt comfortable with his lead, as he didn’t have anyone close by, but little did he know that Rocky Mountain ATV Yamaha’s Cody Webb was less than a minute behind. Webb pushed against Hart, even overtaking him in one section for the lead aboard his one-off YZ265X. However, Hart did not relent, reclaiming the lead after Webb made a small mistake, holding onto it until the finish at the end of the second lap. Webb finished just 56 seconds behind Hart, marking one of the closest finishes of the season. Riordan crossed the line in third place, about nine minutes behind Webb.

The battle for fourth place came down to the wire, as Rockstar Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Ryder LeBlond attempted to hold off the KTM of KRD Hui’s Kamakana Waiwaiole-Kahalepuna at the end of the second lap. Racing down from the “Bullet Proof Designs Top of the World” section, LeBlond felt pressure from Kamakana, who ultimately made a last-ditch effort to pass and succeeded, finishing in fourth place just 16 seconds ahead of LeBlond.

In the Women’s division, FactoryOne Sherco’s Louise Forsley was the top female, finishing a couple checks ahead of the rest of the field. In the Amateur ranks, Niko Piazza emerged as the top A class finisher, while Cole Clarkson won the B Class.
This was the final round of the AMA West Hard Enduro Series, leading to the distribution of AMA Regional Championship awards at the end of the evening. Hart won the Pro class and clinched the overall Bullet Proof Designs U.S. Hard Enduro Series Championship a round early; however, that award will be presented at the 2025 Red Bull Tennessee Knockout on August 8-10 in Sequatchie, Tennessee.CN
