The Tyler Lynn team, made up of Lynn and Carter Klein, shared duties on the Slam for Life Racing Honda CRF450X to win the 57th SCORE Baja 500, June 6-7. The pair completed the 461.03-mile racecourse in nine hours, 18 minutes and 23 seconds with an average speed of 49.54 mph. It was Honda’s 24th victory in the Baja 500. In April, the team also won the SCORE San Felipe 250.

“It went really well,” Lynn said of the race. “Nearly perfect day. I think the bike only hit the ground once. But other than that, we had a perfect day. Carter did an awesome job on the coast. Managed our time gap. We pulled 10 minutes throughout the whole race. So, we’re stoked. Me and Carter came here with a goal in mind and we put in the work. It showed today who put in the most work and the most effort. We are leading the championship with a little points gap now, so that’s nice going into the Baja 400.”
Last year’s 500 winner, Arturo Salas Jr was second. Salas and teammates Shane Logan and Ciaran Naran, also aboard a Honda CRF450X, were approximately 10 minutes back in second overall, averaging 48.66 mph.
“It was great,” Salas said. “You know, the boys and I are here in Ensenada at the finish line, safe and can’t complain about that. You know, we went out there with one goal, and that was to finish. We always want to cross the finish line first, but you know, one step closer than we were at the last race. It seemed like it was a really, really close one. We lost a little bit in the morning, but with the fog and dust and everything, it was brutal. Three in the morning makes it tough. Shane rode incredibly today, and so did Arturo. I think the boys and I know where we each need to work, and we’re going to go home and put in the homework, that’s for sure.”
Eric Holt, with teammates Daemon Woolslayer, Axel Pearson and Brian Whiteside, was third overall on the team’s Husqvarna FE450. They crossed the finish line approximately 40 minutes later.
“We had some issues about race mile 130,” Holt said. “We had to change the rear brake caliper and the brake system in the rear of the bike. We lost brakes, so we lost some time there. Then we had to just battle back throughout the day.”
Lynn, Salas Jr and Holt were the only three Pro Moto Unlimited teams entered in the race.
Fourth overall went to the Pro Moto 40-class winners Shane Esposito, Francisco Septien, Rene Magana, Jason Miller and Jim O’Neal (Honda CRF450X). The Esposito Honda CRF450X team took the checkers approximately 11 minutes ahead of the winning Pro Moto Limited team of Bhaskar Ramani, Luis Aguillar, Thorn Davlin, Omar Rose, Juan Tamayo and Fabian (Honda CRF450X).

“I led the start, and it was dusty,” Ramani said. “I was all over the place today. We had a few riders. So, I think we did a phenomenal job of executing our plan. I wanted to put the fast guys first a little bit and then put our guys who could put some miles in in the middle and then lay it down right at the end. That’s exactly what we did. And man, we executed it perfectly.”
The winning Pro Moto 30 team of Jason Alosi, Shane Shorno and Tucker Hopkins (Honda CRF450X) was eighth overall.
Larry Serna won the Pro Moto Ironman class, which was his second consecutive victory this SCORE season. Serna crossed the finish line in 13 hours, four minutes, and 41 seconds aboard his Honda CRF450X.
“I’m very happy and grateful to be here,” Serna said at the finish line. “It was a very heavy morning because of the fog; you couldn’t see anything. The first 80 miles, I couldn’t see anything, so I took off my goggles. It was something I shouldn’t have done. When I put on new goggles, everything started to flow better. I started to gain confidence. That was when I had a pretty big accident. I hit a rock at 60-70 miles an hour. I flew off, and the bike was destroyed, the radiator broke, but other than that, nothing happened to me. It could have been much worse. After that, my whole race consisted of stopping every 20 miles to put antifreeze in it.” CN
