Toni Bou, of the Repsol Honda Team, took the overall win in the opening round of the FIM TrialGP Champion in Motegi, Japan, May 18-19. The defending champ won both days, while his teammate Gabriel Marcelli went 2-3. Sherco’s Adam Raga went 3-2 over the weekend.
Toni Bou won both legs of the FIM TrialGP Championship opening round in Motegi, Japan.
Bou said he was pleased with his riding over the two days. “Things are going very well for us, both in the outdoor and indoor series,” he said. “The two victories are very special because they were at Honda’s home round. The first lap was very good and, on the second, I made a small mistake at zone three when looking for a clean. I feel very good and confident in my riding. I’m being very constant, which is the goal.”
Marcelli hoped to match his day-one performance on day two but had to settle for third. “The day went quite well,” he said on Sunday. “I had a small mechanical problem at zone 10 that hurt us, but we still took third position and another podium. The weekend has been very positive, and I felt good on the bike.”
Bou’s teammate Gabriel Marcelli went 2-3
Marcelli and Raga’s battle for second was tight. Raga ended up edging out Marcelli by three points to take second for the day.
After the first round, Bou jumps out to a solid points lead with 40, with Marcelli and Raga tied for second with 32 points. Spain’s Aniol Gelabert (TRRS) is fourth with 26 points and France’s Benoit Bincaz (Sherco) and Italy’s Matteo Grattarola (Beta) round out the top five with 21 points apiece. CN
