Eric Moe and Larry Jeurink Led Endurance Race Before Crashing into an Infield Pond
In this week’s Throwback we wind back the clock 36 years to June of 1988 and drop in on the Loudon, New Hampshire round of the AMA/CCS EBC Brakes Endurance Challenge Road Race Series. In the 500-kilometer endurance event, High Tech Racing, with riders Eric Moe and Larry Jeurink, led more than half of the race on their Suzuki GSX-R1100. This photo captures one of High Tech’s pit stops with Moe pushing Jeurink back into action. Unfortunately, with less than an hour to go their day ended when Jeurink overshot the left-handed, fourth gear turn three, ran off the track and ended up splashing into the pond on the infield of the course. Jeurink paddled his way back to shore and was checked out at the track’s medical facility where he was treated and later released. The High Tech Suzuki was later recovered from the bottom of the pond.
