Anderson and Barcia Out For Remaining Supercross Rounds
Cycle News Staff | May 4, 2023
Final word came in today regarding Jason Anderson and Justin Barcia as both of the 450SX front runners confirmed they will miss the final two rounds of the 2023 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season. This is a huge blow to both riders as they were picking up steam late in the year. More on each rider’s injuries below.
Anderson
Anderson, the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider, says his injury came from a practice crash in Nashville. “A ct scan showed I have a non displaced fracture at c5-c6 in my neck,” Anderson wrote on Instagram. He continued, “Luckily where the fracture is my season is not over and I can come back to the races relatively soon!”. Kawasaki’s press team also confirmed the injury saying, “With focus toward his recovery, Anderson will sit out the remaining rounds of the Monster Energy Supercross Championship and will take it week by week to determine his return to racing.”
Anderson crashed in his Nashville heat race but later won the LCQ and finished sixth in the main event. He’s currently sixth in the season points with a best finish of third at round five in Houston. We hope to see El Hombre healed up and back on the gate soon. You can read his full Instagram post by clicking the photo below.
Barcia
Barcia, who was fresh off a win in the mud at East Rutherford, crashed late in the Nashville main event while running third. Barcia confirmed his injuries via Instagram which include a broken collarbone, a broken right shoulder, and two broken ribs. He’s already undergone surgery for the collarbone but won’t need an operation for the shoulder.
Barcia recently re-signed a two-year deal with the Troy Lee Designs Red Bull GasGas team and is likely to return to action sometime this summer. His best finish was a win at East Rutherford and a string of podiums that saw him battling Ken Roczen for fourth in points. Listen to his full injury report by clicking the video below.
Webb
Both riders join Cooper Webb on the injured reserve list. The KTM rider also confirmed he’s out for the remaining Supercross rounds after a crash at the Nashville round where his head was run over in the heat race. Webb says he suffered a “moderate concussion” and was instructed to take “6-8 weeks of no dirt bikes”. No other injuries were sustained in the crash and Webb is likely to race the second half of the outdoor motocross season. His best finishes were wins at both Tampa and Arlington.
