Hunter Bush capped off the 2022 AMA East Hare Scrambles Championship with a win at The Ridge AMA/ECEA Hare Scrambles in Monticello, New York, October 1-2. The GasGas rider battled 2021 Champion Kyle McDonal and Justin Lafferty before breaking away and taking the win with approximately 30 seconds to spare over runner-up McDonal on the Bromley’s Beta.

At one point, Bush, who had earlier grabbed the holeshot, was running behind leader McDonal and KTM rider Neil Enman. But during lap three of the six-lap race, Bush fought back and pushed his Beta to the front. From lap four on, Bush never looked back and took the win over McDonal, while Lafferty nabbed the last spot on the podium after having a good battle with Enman.
Beta-mounted Max Fernandez, who had already clinched the 2022 EHS Championship, rounded out the top five overall.
The Ridge race was a makeup race for the series opening round that was originally scheduled in February, in North Carolina, but was canceled due to an ice storm. The Monticello race, held at the Holiday Mountain MX and Ski Resort facility, was nearly canceled, as well, with hurricane Ian barreling down on the area just a few days before. Fortunately, the hurricane changed course at the last minute, which allowed the race to go on as planned, although the threatening hurricane no doubt influenced attendance. But many riders in the area still turned out for what was also an ECEA, RRMC, D6 and NYOA points-paying race.

KTM rider Daniel Clark was sixth overall and the top-placing A-class rider, but not by much. Clark out-ran fellow A 251cc-plus rider Jesse Shellock (KTM) by one second after more than two hours of racing.
Seventh overall went to the top A 250cc rider Kyle Grenewicz (Yamaha) while B 86cc-200cc rider Cooper Davis, on a KTM 125, made it into the top 10 overall with ninth.
Jason Key (Kawasaki) completed the top 10 overall as second 250cc A rider.
In the morning C race, the top two riders came from the Schoolboy II starting line, with Husqvarna rider Mannix Mathis taking the win followed by GasGas-mounted Zach Garrison. Carter Przemelewski (Yamaha), from the Schoolboy I line, was third overall.
In the Youth race, NYOA rider Keegan Kneedler (Husqvarna) led from start to finish and won the East Hare Scrambles (14-16) Supermini Championship, while Landon Wentz (KTM) secured the 12-13 Supermini title.
