Throwback Thursday: Five Brits and a Frenchman

In this week’s Throwback we dial the Wayback Machine 28 years to 1991 and the U.S. Grand Prix at Laguna Seca. Part of the big race weekend was the Sidecar GP event. When it all shook out the podium featured five British participants and one Frenchman. Standing atop the podium are the winners, three-time world champ Steve Webster and his passenger Gavin Simmons. On the left are the Elf Krauser team of Alain Michel (the only non-Brit) and Simon Birchall. Third-place finishers, the Dixon brothers, Darren and Sean, are on the right.
Interestingly, it was the Dixon brothers’ very first Sidecar GP. It wasn’t Darren’s first GP however – he’d raced in the British 500cc Grand Prix in 1989, making him one of the only racers ever to compete in both 500cc and Sidecar Grand Prix events.
