GasGas returns to the SuperEnduro World Championship with a seventh position from Danny McCanney in the Polish GP.
This is a press release from GasGas…
The British rider finished seventh at the Tauron Arena in Krakow. GasGas celebrates its return to the elite of the SuperEnduro World Championship together with Torrot.
Torrot’s off-road subsidiary returns to the elite of the specialty, by aligning the former 2013 Junior World Champion with GasGas. Daniel McCanney, finishes the first GP of the season in seventh place in the Prestige category after getting a 7-4-8 tally in the finals on the new GasGas EnduroGP 300.
Once the competition started, the young man from the Isle of Man got into the sixth position, just after the start of the first of the three finals that would determine the winner of the SuperEnduro GP in Poland. After losing two positions in this uncomfortable intermediate group, McCanney climbed a position to finally finish in seventh place.
In the second final, as is usual from previous editions, the pilots started in reverse order from the result of the first series. This was a piece of luck the British rider took advantage of by freeing himself from a multiple fall in the first corner. The official GasGas Enduro Factory Team rider left behind the tire area in fifth place and did not take long to climb a position until he got into the fourth place which he was to keep until reaching the checkered flag.
Shortly after, already in the third and last final, the GasGas rider, starting from the second row, was blocked in his attempt to start from the inside. An early setback that the British rider tried to overcome, despite the short time he had with only nine laps ahead and less than nine minutes of race time left. This was only a short period of time in which McCanney managed to make up two positions, finally finishing eighth.
After this first event in Krakow, the GasGas rider leaves Poland in seventh place in the World Championship standings, with 28 points on the table. The next January 6, the German town of Riesa, will hold the second round of the 2018 SuperEnduro World Championship.
DANNY MCCANNEY: “First of all, I was really happy to be back racing for GasGas in the SuperEnduro. My first practice and qualifying was difficult as I hadn’t prepared enough for this race. My first race was seventh, but I was happy with this as I rode a lot better, and the second race I was fourth, which I was really happy about and I began to feel more confidence. The final race was eighth with a really bad start, but I was again happy with this position coming from way behind and to end the night seventh overall was perfect for me. I would like to thank all my team and Torrot for all the efforts they have made so we can be in the 2018 World SuperEnduro Championship.
