Paulo Goncalves Out Of Dakar Rally
Jean Turner | January 14, 2016
Honda HRC rider Paulo Goncalves has had a rough time in the 2016 Dakar Rally, and has been fighting tooth and nail to stay in the front-running for the overall victory, but his bid in the “toughest race in the world” is now over. Goncalves was found unconscious in today’s Stage 11 shortly after CP2. Goncalves was immediately evacuated from the site and taken to a hospital where he is currently under observation.
Any chance of an overall victory for the red team is now over, as Goncalves was the last of their riders who was within reach of the top spot. American rider Ricky Brabec is now the top contender for factory Honda’s Team HRC, sitting seventh in standings. Kevin Benavides of the Honda South America Rally Team is the top Honda rider at fifth overall.
