INDIANAPOLIS, IN, AUG. 8—The back to form Marc Marquez topped the time sheets in today’s MotoGP FP3 session at Indy. And the times were tight, the top 13 all within a second of the Repsol Honda man.
Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Bradley Smith trailed Marquez by .029 of a second, a much better session than his recently re-signed teammate Pol Espargaro who once again crashed in the session and was down in eighth.
Andrea Iannone led the way for the factory Ducati team in third, while his teammate Andrea Dovizioso struggled in 11th, just missing the cut for the second qualifying session.
Marquez’ teammate Dani Pedrosa improved to fourth. Yesterday’s fast man, Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo dropped back to fifth.
CWM LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow was sixth ahead of Team Suzuki Ecstar’s Aleix Espargaro. Lorenzo’s teammate and series-points leader Valentino Rossi continued to struggle in ninth. MotoGP rookie Maverick Vinales on the other factory Suzuki machine rounded out the top 10 that go straight into the second qualifying session later this afternoon.
