Reed Wins First Moto at High Point

After fighting off an early challenge from Honda’s Andrew Short, Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Chad Reed won the opening moto at the High Point round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships this afternoon.

Reed grabbed the holeshot at the start of the 30 minute plus two lap race, however, it was Short who led the opening lap after making a pass on the back side of the track. Short led just one lap before Reed made his way back into the lead, stretching his advantage to a comfortable margin by the end of the race.

For most of the race, Reed, Short and Short’s teammate Ivan Tedesco ran 1-2-3. However, near the end of the race, JGR/Yamaha’s Josh Grant, who finished the first lap just inside the top 10, worked his way through traffic, eventually passing Short for second with two laps remaining. A lap later, however, Grant came up short over a jump and went down, allowing Short and Tedesco to regain second and third.

At the finish the order was Reed, Short, and Tedesco, with Suzuki’s Michael Byrne and JGR/Yamaha’s Cody Cooper rounding out the top five.

Grant rebounded to finish sixth.
