Glen Helen Practice

| September 11, 2004

Practice for the final round of the AMA Chevrolet National Motocross series finished up today at Glen Helen Raceway without any problems. And as usual Ricky Carmichael and James Stewart were two of the fastest riders out on the course.

As you might know by now Carmichael has decided to run the number one plate in honor of the years that he has spent on Team Honda. Stewart has also decided to do something different at this round, and is racing a Kawasaki KXF250 four-stroke instead of his trusty KX125.

As far as lap times go Carmichael had the fastest, with a 2:34.783 min lap time. Stewart was second fastest, with a lap time of 2:38.254 min. Reed was in third, with a time of 2:38.707 min. Joaquim Rodrigues was flying on his KTM, and got the fourth fastest time at 2:42.723. Rounding out the top five was Sebastian Tortelli with a time of 2:43.346.

An interesting side note is the fact that filming for “Supercross” the movie is going on this weekend. Much like at the final Supercross round in Las Vegas filming will be done during the actually racing tomorrow. A few of the riders participating in the film are David Pingree and Rich Taylor. Pingree won his qualifier today with Taylor taking second in the same qualifier.

Today was definitely a scorcher. With temperatures reaching the triple digits tomorrow is going to be a challenge for the riders. Some people are saying that tomorrow might be cooler, however, in order for it to be comfortable it would have to drop 20 degrees. But even with the hot temperature Carmichael and Stewart don’t seem to be fazed one bit and tomorrow will be a race to watch.
