GNCC: Smith is Champ!

| October 8, 2001

Kawasaki Team Green rider and former Grand National Cross Country Champion Fred Andrews won his third-straight GNCC round yesterday at Power Line Park in St. Clairsville, Ohio, but the runner-up finish by Team FMF Suzuki’s Rodney Smith was enough the sew up the 2001 title. It was the third GNCC title for Smith. Defending Champion Shane Watts held the early lead and was pulling away on his KTM before hitting a tree and injuring his knee. Yamaha’s Jason Raines rounded out the top three, with Suzuki’s Mike Kiedrowski and KTM’s Mike Lafferty filling out the top five. One round remains in the GNCC Series.
