Kelly Smith Rules Budds Creek Fall Classic Opener

KTM Red Bull’s Kelly Smith topped the opening round of the AMA Fall Classic/Eastern Four-Stroke MX Nationals by Yamaha, held at Budds Creek MX Park on September 9. Smith, the defending series champion, finished 1-1 in the Four-Stroke Pro class, followed by KTM riders Clark Stiles, who went 2-2, and Jeff Gibson, who went 4-3 on the day.

Stiles fought back to take the 250cc A/Pro win with a solid 1-1 ride, followed by Honda-mounted Kevin Crine, who went 3-3 for second overall. Smith (2-5) finished third overall.

Kawasaki rider Paul Veracka took the 125cc A/Pro win, with 2-1 moto finishes. Crine was second overall (4-3), followed by Husqvarna rider Jim Neese, who finished 6-2.
