Carr, who’s already clinched the 2001 AMA Grand National Championship, won his ninth race of the year, this one over Corbin Racing/Dave Burks Motorsports’ Kenny Coolbeth and Harley-Davidson’s Rich King. Coolbeth led several times, but was always displaced by Carr and was pushed back into a scrap with King. The fight for second was so close that the position wasn’t immediately decided, but eventually went in Coolbeth.
The original 25-lap race was shortened to 20 because of track and weather concerns, then red-flagged on the eighth lap when Roger Lee Hayden and Jess Roeder came together. Hayden was able to make the re-start.
