Honda Wins 24-Hour

Honda’s off-road racing team took top honors at the FRT 24-Hour Endurance Off-Road World Championship in Plaster City, California, April 28-29. Johnny Campbell, Greg Bringle, Steve Hengeveld, Craig Smith, Tim Staab and Jonah Street, riding an XR650R, combined efforts to not only win the race and the Open Four-Stroke class but to set a new world record by accumulating 1418.39 miles in a 24-hour period. The previous record was 1362.30 miles, set by Campbell and his team in 1999.

The second-place team, made up of Robert Barnum, Sal Garcia, Robert Lightfoot, Jimmy McCay and Tim Pfeiffer, completed 1223.39 miles, while the third-place team (Dewey Belew, Mark Brown, Dani Hagen, Lee Henry, Chris Hoppe and Bill McNeer) covered 1217.86 miles.
