Proving that what you did yesterday doesn’t matter much, Finland’s Kari Tiainen won today’s 13th stage of the Paris-Dakar Rally – just one day after finishing 60th in stage 12.
Tianen topped KTM-mounted Isidre Esteve Pujol by 25 minutes, 23 seconds in today’s 332 miles stage – 318 miles of which was a special test. Third place today went to Alfie Cox, another KTM-mounted rider, with fellow KTM pilots Carlo de Gavardo and Fabrizio Meoni filling the top five positions.
Meoni continues to lead the overall standings over Jordi Arcarons, who ended today’s stage in sixth place. Meoni leads Arcarons by 21 minutes, 25 seconds after 13 stages of the rally.
American Johnny Campbell rode his Honda to 10th place in today’s stage, one spot better than countryman Jimmy Lewis on the factory BMW. Lewis, however, remains in sixth place overall with Campbell eighth in the overall standings.
