Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Josep Garcia came away with a sweep at the fourth round of the FIM EnduroGP Championship in Wales, August 1-3. Garcia won every time he got on the bike, but he had close company along the way.
The Spaniard’s success started Friday evening when he topped the field in the Akrapovic Super Test, securing the win over TM Moto’s Zach Pichon, whom Garcia would battle all weekend. GasGas rider Andrea Verona was third, followed by David Soreca (Kawasaki) and Daniel McCanney (Beta).

Saturday’s EnduroGP got off to a fast start for Garcia, who topped the first test of the day and went on to win the day’s overall and the E1 class. However, Pichon and Verona kept Garcia on his toes, ensuring the KTM rider could never let down his guard.
Garcia finished the day out approximately 20 seconds ahead of Pichon, with Verona just a few seconds back in third. Triumph’s Mikael Persson was a close fourth; Honda rider Samuele Bernardini rounded out the top five.
“Things started out well,” Garcia said. “I was happy with my pace from the beginning and worked at getting the lead. I had a small crash on the second cross-test, but nothing too bad. I was able to manage my gap on the final lap to win.”
“It was a tough start to the day, crashing many times,” Pichon said. “I wasn’t super comfortable on the bike, but together with my team, we made some changes, which helped me a lot after the first lap. I kept pushing and saw I could close the gap to Andrea, so I gave it everything. It’s been a good day!”
“I’m not too happy with how my day ended,” Verona said. “I began pretty well but made some small mistakes as things went on that really cost me. I’ll check the tests this evening and try to be better for tomorrow.”
It was another Garcia/Pichon battle for Sunday’s win. This time, Pichon struck first, winning the first test in the rain just ahead of Garcia. After the first lap of tests, however, Garcia bounced back and overtook Pichon for the overall lead. The duo continued to battle it out until the penultimate test, an Enduro test, of the day, with Garcia leading by just six seconds over Pichon. Here, Pichon fell and lost 20-plus seconds to Garcia, which all but sealed the win for Garcia with just one test left.
Pichon ended up winning the final test, but it wasn’t enough to dethrone Garcia.
Afterward, Garcia said, “I made some changes this morning with the rear mousse to anticipate the mud, but it wasn’t the correct direction to go, so we made some changes again, and I was able to push harder. The battle with Zach was great; we were pretty close all day. To start out the second part of the season with two wins is fantastic, but there are still many rounds to go.”
“I’m a bit disappointed with my crash in the final Enduro test, but I had the speed today across all the special tests. This result moves me up to second overall in the championship, too, so I’m happy with this weekend, and I’m motivated for the next one in Portugal.”
Bernardini, Persson and KTM rider Max Ahlin spent the day fighting over the final podium spot. Bernardini ended up edging Persson out for the spot, with Ahlin rounding out the top five.

In the Women’s category, American Rachel Gutish had a strong showing, as she battled her Rieju Factory teammate Rosie Rowett of Great Britain for the win both days. Unfortunately for Gutish, she came up just short both days, by four seconds on Saturday and 26 seconds on Sunday. Gutish had the class lead going into the final test on Saturday but was edged out by Rowett in the test and overall. It was Rowett’s first career win.
“I had a great lead heading into the final lap but then made mistakes on the Extreme test and Enduro test and lost my advantage,” Rowett said. “Entering the final test, I knew I was riding fast there and just gave it everything I had. I am super happy with the win.”
After four of seven rounds, Garcia leads the championship points over Pichon, 149-125. Verona is third, just five points behind Pichon. Sherco’s Hamish MacDonald is fourth (90) and Persson is fifth (81).
In the Women’s division, Italian Francesca Nocera (Honda) leads Gutish by two points. Rowett is just four points back in third.CN
