British Trials Guru was Just Getting Warmed Up in the ‘90s

In this week’s Throwback, we dial back the clock 29 years to the 1996 Scottish Six Days Trial.
Pictured is then 42-year-old Trials veteran Nigel Birkett aboard a Yamaha TYZ. At that point Birkett was already one of longtime veterans of the SSDT, but as it turns out the old boy was just hitting his stride. Birkett, a former Suzuki, Montesa, Kawasaki, Fantic and Yamaha factory rider, first competed in the Scottish Six Day in 1971 and just kept right on going.
A few years back he was honored for participating in his 50th SSDT. Today at 71, Birkett is British importer of Scorpa motorcycles, and yes, he’s still competing annually in the SSDT.
