Throwback Thursday: Cadalora, Zeelenberg and Reggiani Podium at Laguna Seca
In this week’s Throwback we dial back the time machine 28 years to 1991 and the U.S. Grand Prix at Laguna Seca. This photo shows the podium finishers in the 250cc Grand Prix race, with Luca Cadalora standing atop the rostrum after winning aboard his Rothmans-Kanemoto Honda. Flanking Cadalora are Wilco Zeelenberg (left) who finished second and third-place Loris Reggiani (right).
Cadalora won five of the nine 250GP races that season to win the championship. Laguna was the top finish for Zeelenberg and matched the best for Reggiani. They would go on to finish fourth and sixth in the 250cc world championships respectively.
That year’s 250 series was dominated by Honda. The top five finishers in the championship in ’91 were aboard Hondas. Aprilia riders Reggiani and Pierfrancesco Chili were the only non-Honda riders able to get on the podium that year.
