This weekend’s round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series in Phoenix, Arizona, saw a pair of first time winners top the podiums in both the premier 450-class division and the West Regional 250 SX division. GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac ran down last week’s winner Ken Roczen on the RCH/Soaring Eagle/Jimmy Johns Suzuki to take a huge win in the 450 final. Meanwhile, Star Racing Yamaha’s Cooper Webb outran GEICO Honda’s Malcolm Stewart in the 250 division. Photography by Shan Moore

Jessy Nelson

Last week’s winner in the 250 class, Jessy Nelson, finished third in Phoenix and maintains control of the red number plate, which signifies he is the series points leader.

Weston Peick

AutoTrader.com/Toyota/Yamaha’s Weston Peick put up a good fight in the 450 main, holding off a hard-charging Ryan Dungey until just three laps to go. Peick cased a triple and injured his left foot, which allowed Dungey to squeeze his Red Bull KTM into third positions. Peick held on for fourth.

Ken Roczen

Ken Roczen jumped out to a quick lead and appeared to be running away with the race, but then Tomac got up to speed and ran him down. Roczen finished second and still holds the points lead.

Ken Roczen and Eli Tomac

Roczen (94) and Tomac kept the crowd on its feet for five or six laps while they battled back and forth for the lead.

Malcolm Stewart

GEICO Honda’s Malcolm Stewart got the early jump on the competition in the 250 main, but ultimately gave way to Cooper Webb.

Eli Tomac

Eli Tomac was able to make up time in a couple of places, which gave him the edge on Roczen.

Eli Tomac

Tomac made up a lot of time by jumping the triple before the finish, something that Roczen didn’t do.

Cooper Webb

Cooper Webb had a breakout ride, bringing his Yamaha home for the 250 main event win.
