No More Freestyle For Metzger!

Paul Carruthers | April 21, 2003

The following release is from Mike Metzger’s publicist…

In accordance with his trendsetting ways Mike Metzger has decided to focus on competing in the inaugural 2003 AMA Red Bull Supermoto Championship.

“My passion has always been racing,” Metzger said, “and I’ve been saying that I’m the King of the Two Wheel Deal and now I want to back it up.”

Metzger went on to further explain: “I reached a goal in Freestyle. That was to prove that I’m the best and my world record feat of back to back back-flips over 50-feet and 80-feet gaps made that statement, and has not yet been approached by any other rider so I’d like to move on to another challenge that involves racing.”

In light of his decision, Metzger is not planning on competing in the 2003 Global X Games, Summer X Games, Gravity Games or any other freestyle motocross competition events. Mike will, however, continue to perform in freestyle motocross demos and ride for fun.

So what does Metzger plan on doing during the 2003 Summer X Games in Los Angles? He is planning another first. The first gallery showing of his artwork. Having always considered his riding as an artistic expression, it’s only fitting that he chose a time that he was expected to be riding to share his art with the world. Further details will be released as the event draws closer.

Mike would like to thank the companies that are making his effort possible this year as well as the support of his family and friends. He would also like to invite the worlds’ best riders to come and join him in competing on the level playing field that Supermoto provides.
