The following is a press release from Clear Channel Entertainment – Motor Sports…
After two rounds of the K&N Filters Pro Series, Bryan Smith (pictured) of the 1stlegal Honda team sits on top of the Formula USA National Dirt Track Series points standings with 66 points, 22 ahead of KTM factory rider Kenny Coolbeth, but as the series heads into round three at Houston Raceway Park, don’t expect Smith to put it on cruise control just yet.
Last year’s fast qualifier Jason Tyer was ready to jump on top of the podium until motor troubles in the main put an end to his charge. Tyer will be on his new CRF450 Honda this year, and looks forward to the clay 3/8-mile, high-banked track.
“I love the track and my new bike,” Tyer said. “If they put the water down, I have a shot at winning my first national win.”
What about two-time Formula USA National Dirt Track Champion, Terry Poovey? The veteran struggled in Plymouth, Wisconsin, in the opening round on the ultra-fast short track, finishing a disappointing 13th. After missing the next round in Rochester, New Hampshire, Poovey comes into Houston 23rd in the standings. But don’t count the tough old veteran out just yet. Poovey finished second in last year’s Houston event and has had his Honda on the dyno lately, getting every bit of horsepower he can to help him in his quest for a National Championship three-peat.
The Houston event will host the film crew from “This Is Motorcycling!” for a full one-hour show around the day’s activities, which incluse a motorcycle rally, battle of the bands, vendors row, custom bike show and the Foremost Insurance National. Highlights will also be featured on ESPN2 MotoWorld.
