Mammoth MX: 125 Class

| June 23, 2001

This was tiddler day at the Mammoth Mountain Motocross, and in 125cc Pro racing, Mazda Yamaha’s Jeremy McGrath avenged his hard-luck Friday, roosting a YZ250F thumper to the win in his qualifier (despite a dead-last start) and in the main event. McGrath started the main around fourth, but before the first of 10 laps was completed, he had already passed White Brothers Yamaha’s Doug Dubach (yesterday’s Open Pro winner) for the lead.

Later in the moto, Dubach was passed by teammate Spud Walters, but he got back around to finish runner-up, about 10 seconds behind McGrath.

For the first part of the race, the top five were all YZ250F-mounted, but Pro Circuit/Kawasaki/SplitFire’s Andrew Short charged his KX125 up to the final podium position by race’s end. Walters held on for fourth, while Fast by Ferracci Husqvarna’s Steve Lamson, after starting outside the top 10, worked his way up to fifth.
