In this week’s Throwback we dial back the clock to 1982 and land at Gardena, California’s famous Ascot Park. In April the track hosted the always intriguing Ascot TT, round four of that year’s AMA Grand National Championship. That’s evening’s Heat race battle between Kawasaki’s Wayne Rainey, on a factory-built KX500-based TT machine and Harley-Davidson XR750-mounted Ted Boody was said to be one of the best battles of the night. The two ran bar to bar the entire race and reportedly made contact numerous times in the process. In the end Boody edged out Rainey in their highly entertaining row. Both riders made the Main and Boody earned a podium finish in third.
